MY STORYAs my acceptance to Harvard College came with a mandatory Gap Year, it was a difficult decision to make. Since I had never thought of taking a Gap Year before, I was plunged into uncertainty and plenty of free time. My decision came mid June, right before graduation from High School. Then, the day after graduation, I left for New Hampshire to work as a camp counselor for the entirety of the summer. All of these events added complications to my situation, because I wasn't able to even think of what to do for my gap year until I got back home in late August. As such, the "planning" process of my Gap Year was swift and chaotic, but with help from Holly Bull and the Center for Interim Programs I gained more focus and understanding of the opportunities available for a Gap Year.
By the time I was getting ready to leave for Minorca, Spain, I was unsure if I was going to be headed to Ireland or not. I was still working on getting an internship abroad in Dublin. Therefore, all I could do was pack a suitcase filled with winter clothes and hope that something worked out, which it did to an extent that I could never have imagined. I left the US uncertain of my plans and unsure of my own independence, and I came back a more confident and independent individual ready for my next adventure.
